The paintings represented in the central hall of the museum on Afrasiab, are unique for their time and had decorated the reception hall of the house, which was situated in several hundreds of meters to the west from the museum. They were discovered accidentally in 1965, during works on a lining of new road to Tashkent. The bulldozer has destroyed the latent wall in the ground, with the second preserved level of paintings. Further inhibited, paintings were transferred on special designs and were mounted in the central hall of the museum, where they have been exhibited since 1985. The represented hall with the paintings truly reproduces proportions and the orientations of the excavated hall. Excavations opened the big aristocratic house. It’s the palace of the king himself (which must have been situated on the north site of Afrasiab, at the bottom of the citadel), probably it’s the king Varkhuman’s family residence who reigned in the third quarter of the VII th AD. We have opportunity to learn who had exactly ordered the paintings.
